Question 1. In light of recent legal changes and challenges related to abortion rights, what steps do you think should be taken at the state level to address these issues and how do you plan to engage with constituents who hold differing views on abortion to find common ground or address their concerns?
Answer- The issue surrounding abortion is now up to the voters of the State of Florida, which is exactly where it should be. This constitutional amendment gives everyone the opportunity to have their voice heard, directly. After November, this issue will be decided, and it should not come before the legislature again. Should the issue come before the legislature, I will hear all constituents, just like I have on all of the issues that have come before me during this campaign. The people of Madison County have made it very clear to me the most important issues facing this community is not that of abortion rights but access to good, high wage jobs and opportunity, the insurance crisis and high quality schools.
Question 2. How do you propose to address healthcare access and affordability in our district and do you feel that minors are capable mentally to make life altering decisions concerning their gender?
Answer- The underlying sentiment with the access and affordability of healthcare, is a lack of opportunity and good paying jobs that exists in Madison County. We must begin to work with employers that want to do business in Madison to attract them to the County and the high wage jobs and opportunity they can bring. I am not suggesting any sort of urban sprawl or mass development that would burden the charm of Madison but it is important that those with family in Madison or those that want to call Madison home, should not have to move to another community to get a job and support themselves. I will also work with the legislature and organizations to ensure that all possible programs and funding that can be brought back to Madison to support the healthcare efforts are being done so. I absolutely do not feel like minors have the ability to make those decisions.
Question 3. What motivated you to run for state representative, and what personal experiences have shaped your views?
Answer- It was never a question of if I was going to run, it was a matter of when. Growing up in the FFA, 4H and Cattlemen’s Associations, I always had the God given desire to lead. Those experiences showed me the true passion I have for showing those a new path forward and providing those with less than I, more. I have always been involved in local government serving on various boards and committees to make our community a better place. I was motivated to run when I saw the lack of leadership in the Big Bend Region with regard to the homeless and mental health crisis as well as the lack of resources from the state. It should come to no surprise to anyone, that those in the majority, often get more for their communities. The Florida House operates with a Republican Majority and a Republican Governor; a Republican Member of the House of Representatives will be able to bring more resources, funding and access to opportunity to their District. It is time that our community, get their fair amount back from the state, because we all know, we are paying in!
