On Thursday, June 17, at approximately 8:30 a.m., first responders were called to a fire located at 521 SE Trading Post Loop, in Lee. A mobile home had been engulfed in flames that quickly grew out of control.
After upwards of 30 minutes spent in an effort to subdue the fire, they finally managed to gain control of the situation and put the fire out. According to Fire Chief Allen Clayton at Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR), it was determined that the fire was caused intentionally by someone in the residence who lit a mattress on fire. They quickly lost control of the situation, ultimately causing a total loss of the home.
MCFR, Madison Fire Department, Suwannee County Fire Rescue and Madison County Sheriff's Office were all at the scene. The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the situation and hopes to determine who ignited the fire that destroyed the home.
