Taylor County Superintendent of Schools Danny Glover, Jr. will give the commencement address for Saint Leo University’s Madison Education Center seniors at 7 p.m., on Friday, May 5.
The ceremony will take place at the Van H. Priest Auditorium, on the North Florida Community College campus in Madison.
About 35 members of the Class of 2017 will receive their bachelor’s degrees during the commencement while three students will earn their Master of Business Administration degrees.
Giving the class farewell will be Georgia Register and Amanda Willoughby. Register is graduating summa cum laude and is earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services.
Willoughby also is graduating with top honors, summa cum laude, and will receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.
Peggy Hasty, Class of 2013, will lead the new graduates in the traditional turning of the tassels on their mortarboards and welcome them as alumni.
Guest speaker Glover has devoted his career to education and working with children. He served for six years on the Taylor County School Board, before becoming superintendent of schools. He began his career in education as a physical education teacher at Taylor County High School, then went on to work as a PE teacher and fourth grade reading teacher at Lafayette Elementary School in Mayo.
Upon completing his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Glover was promoted to principal at Lafayette Elementary School. During his tenure as principal, the school performed in the top of the state in reading, writing, and math. Glover has completed his course work toward his doctorate in educational leadership and is currently working on his dissertation, with his research focusing on teacher morale.
The Hamilton County ROTC will provide the color guard for Saint Leo’s Madison commencement and Dr. Emma Moore, adjunct Professor of Business, will serve as the faculty marshal. Welcoming the seniors, their families, and friends will be Christy Roebuck, director of the Madison Education Center. Dr. Melanie Storms, vice president of Saint Leo WorldWide will confer the degrees.
