The Perry-Taylor County Chamber of Commerce announced that at the 14th Annual Florida State Bluegrass Festival & Chili Cook-off Event at Forest Capital State Park in Perry will be held March 31 through April 2nd and a truck load of Moon Pies will be hitching a ride from Chattanooga Tennessee to be given out free to the crowd on Saturday by our Moon Pie Princesses. There will also be a Moon Pie Eating Contest! The event starts on Thursday, March 31 and will run through Saturday, April 2nd. Headlining the event are The Band of Ruhks, Sideline, Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road, Kenny Stinson and Perfect Tym’n, Pure & Simple and much more! In addition to this power house line-up there will be a free Kids Fun Zone, arts & crafts and all kinds of food vendors including seafood, BBQ and much more. What started out as a one day event with a few hundred attendees is now a nationally recognized three-day event with thousands in attendance from all over the United States!
There will be talented entertainers filling the park with music all three days, a Chili Cook-off event, where competitors will be competing for over $1,000 in cash prizes, food vendors, arts and crafts items, Moon Pie Eating Contest and free Moon Pies! Best of all, the entry fee is only $20 for a weekend (three-day) pass in advance and $25 at the gate (special priced tickets for local residents available). In addition to all that, ticket holders can attend any one of many free music workshops held throughout the park in the areas of mandolin, banjo, fiddle, dobro and bass.
The Chili Cook-off event is very popular. Contestants can enter to win cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights. For those who do not wish to enter, you can have the opportunity to purchase a cup for only $5 and eat all the chili you wish! But wait…There’s more. Saturday, the Moon Pie Princesses will be there to give out free Moon Pies to the audience!
Show times start on Thursday at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Friday, things will get started at 1 p.m. and will end at 9 p.m. On Saturday, the entertainment will begin at 12 p.m. and will continue through the day until 10 p.m. The event will take place at Forest Capital State Park in Perry on Highway 19 South.
Come out to the Music Capital of the South and get your feet wet to the sound of Bluegrass & Country music!! Expect plenty of parking lot picking and fun-filled singing to the sounds of bluegrass.
