Over the weekend, my team won the series against our rival, Valdosta State. We were playing right up the road from my hometown and it was surreal to be playing on the field that I grew up practicing on. That being said, the tremendous support showed by my friends, family and coworkers was incredible. I had visits from those here at Greene Publishing, who showed up in matching shirts, deeming themselves my “fan club.” I had no idea about their scheme and it really was something special.
My teammates looked in the stands in between games and came up to me expressing their awe at the turnout for me. “Are they all here for you?” Was one of the questions that I got from numerous teammates and coaches. Being able to proudly proclaim that yes, in fact, they are here for me was one of my proudest moments. Not out of pride or ego, but because I have the small town family that reaches beyond blood that most of my teammates have never experienced. Seeing all of the support in real life really made me realize just how special our little town of Madison is. We really are a family. Now you may not think many people care about your career or where you go after leaving Madison, but I cannot tell you enough that you are so wrong. To go along with that, I also realized just how big of an impact my actions and my lifestyle has on the little girls who also wish to play collegiate softball not only in Madison, but in any other city or town that I have come in contact with as well.
This small town will always have my back just as God does. I hope all of my readers understand the importance of our community, and the bond we have all because of where we are from. Madison may be small, but we are mighty and that showed over the weekend. Thank you all for your continuous support and I hope you know that this same support backs all of you, whether you know it or not. Small town love isn’t something you can make up, or grow out of. This town will always be home and the people within it will always be there no matter what. I appreciate each and every one of you, thank you for making this past weekend so special.
