Recently, there have been some unexpected trials and happenings in not only my life, but the lives of my church community as well. These unexpected trials are set to come within our lives, there’s no doubt about that. But instead of fearing or worrying over these obstacles, learn to respect them. I know the old saying is “expect the unexpected” but that will do nothing for us but cause stress as we continuously talk about the “what ifs.” At the end of the day, God is the only one who knows what lies ahead in our lifetime. For that reason and for our own sanity, I say we “respect the unexpected.” As these trials come about, see what we can learn from them. Tip your hat to God and say, “I hear you and I know there is a reason for this.” See what you can learn from this moment instead of being consumed with the surprise, outrage and other emotions that we humans are so prone to have.
You will never know for sure what is coming next. But this should not be a reason to fear the unexpected. See it as a reminder that God is the one in control of your life and that He has everything planned already. When these unexpected trials or moments come, greet them with the respect with which you would greet the Lord. Using this perspective will be yet another step forward in your journey.
