Theodore (Thed) Livingston Fraleigh, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021 at his home in Madison at the age of 85. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at Oakridge Cemetery, in Madison. Family will receive friends after the service at their home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church in Madison, Fla. or a charity of your choice.
Thed was born June 28, 1936 in Quincy, Fla. to Theodore L. Fraleigh, Sr. and Sara H. Fraleigh. He grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1954. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga. for two years, then graduated from University of Georgia in 1958 with a BS in Agriculture and minor in soil science. His early career was spent farming in Madison. When not farming, he loved playing golf, hunting and fishing.
He resided in Lancaster, Pa. from 1994 to 2013 and retired in Madison on the farm he loved. Thed was an active member in the communities in which he lived. These organizations provided Thed an opportunity to connect across the community. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was also a member, Deacon and Elder of Grace Presbyterian Church in Madison. Thed was President of Fraleigh Tobacco Company in Madison, President and owner of Madison County Tobacco Company, member and superintendent of Madison Country Club, owner of Turf Management in Lancaster, member of Central Penn Golf Association, member of Media Golf Club in Lancaster, member of Lancaster Tennis & Yacht Club, and on the Board of Directors in Valleybrook Estates Condominium in Lancaster.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Betty “Sister” Fraleigh O’Toole; and his sister-in-law, Joan Sale Fraleigh. Thed is survived by his wife, Marlene Fraleigh; daughters: Sadie Fraleigh (Jay Cameron), of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and Liz Fraleigh, of Valdosta, Ga.; stepsons: Jerome Sedelmeyer (Joann), of Semora, N.C.; and John Selove (Sharon), of Eugene, Ore.; brothers: John Ed Fraleigh (Margo), of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Ashley H. Fraleigh, of Madison; two grandchildren, Zachary and Alex Lloyd; and two step-grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Sedelmeyer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
