Thomas P. Moffses, Sr., 76, passed away on Monday, Feb. 5, in Madison. Tom was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pa. to Dr. Garabed Herbert Moffses and Elizabeth Moffses (Griffin).
Tom was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Frankford High School (Philadelphia, Pa.) and the University of Florida. He was a Block and Bridle member and an avid Gator fan.
After college, Tom was employed by Harrisville Corporation (Eleuthera, Bahamas); Bahama Poultry (Freeport, Bahamas); International Systems and Controls (Managua, Nicaragua); and Strain Poultry (Madison). Tom was the first City Manager of Greenville, General Manager at Relief Printing, and he served two terms as the City Manager of Madison. He was a member of the Lions Club where he served as President, Vice-President and District Governor of the Club.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Garabed Herbert Moffses; his mother, Elizabeth Moffses (Griffin); and his granddaughter, Caroline Mary Moffses.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Tucker Moffses; three children: Thomas Phillip (Tammy) Moffses, Jr., Timothy Preston Moffses and Todd Prescott (Jaime) Moffses; siblings: Beth Ann Padgett, Barbara June Gift and Shirley A. Derr; five grandchildren: Tyler Phillip, Catherine Maria, Taylor James, Tucker James and Juliana Lynn.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m., at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, with Father Dominic Tran officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterwards in Ebenezer Cemetery. The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Burns Funeral Home of Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church Villa Maria Social Hall fund. St. Vincent DePaul is located at 186 NW Sumter St., in Madison. All services were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
