On Friday, March 20, at approximately 4:42 p.m., a white 2002 Honda Shadow motorcycle, driven by Brenton Mikeal Malone, 31, of Madison, collided with a white Ford F-150 pick-up truck, driven by Herschel Alva Rooks, III, 35, of Madison.
According to a report filed by Madison Police Department (MPD) Corporal Eric Gilbert, Malone was traveling west on Base Street, in the inside lane, when he approached the intersection of Base Street and Range Avenue There was a line of cars turning left on Range Street, so Malone decided to move into the outside lane of Base Street to travel through the intersection. As Malone proceeded toward the intersection, Rooks, who was traveling east on Base Street, attempted to turn left onto Range Avenue, crossing into Malone's path. Malone jumped off the motorcycle before it crashed into Rooks' truck. Both vehicles came to a rest on Range Avenue, with the motorcycle pinned underneath the truck.
Rooks was issued a citation for failing to yield right of way to oncoming traffic. Malone was transported by ambulance to Madison County Memorial Hospital (MCMH) with unspecified injuries. Rooks was unharmed in the accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol, the Madison Fire Department and Madison County Fire Rescue also responded to the scene.
