A blown tire caused a two-vehicle collision on State Road 53 North on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 8:25 a.m., and both lanes of the road were blocked for 45 minutes until the vehicle could be moved. According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, LaTrelle Palhof, of Madison, was traveling southbound on SR 53 while Curtis Leon Simmons, of Madison, was traveling northbound on SR 53. As both vehicles were traveling, Simmons crossed the centerline traveling northbound in the southbound lane. As a result, the left front of Simmons’ 2003 Ford Taurus sideswiped the left front of Palhof’s 1990 Lincoln Town Car. Palhof’s vehicle came to a final rest facing eastbound blocking both north and south bound lanes of SR 53. Simmons’ vehicle came to a final rest facing north on the east shoulder of SR 53. According to the FHP report, Simmons stated, “I was just driving home from work when (my) left front tire blew out.” No injuries were reported at the scene of the collision. Simmons was charged with failure to drive in a single lane.
