Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District has a new conservation technician. Tyler DaSilva is hard at work for the community. He grew up in Suwannee County and grew to love the community, as well. DaSilva graduated high school in 2014 and, after some time of discovery, he made his way to Jacksonville. He worked at T.P.C. Sawgrass, a golf resort in Jacksonville, for a while, but after three years away from home, he felt the need to return. DaSilva made the journey back from Jacksonville and began his new position as the conservation technician for the Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District.
DaSilva is now tasked with a new set of responsibilities; the preservation of agricultural resources. “It’s a vital piece of the community,” DaSilva said. He then went on to state it's even a vital part of the State of Florida, citing that decisions made about agriculture in Madison County affect the entire state. DaSilva also acknowledged the loss of land, saying that land can be developed, but it cannot be undeveloped. Therefore, his job is to conserve and protect the agricultural land in Suwannee, Hamilton and Madison Counties. DaSilva, when asked about his job, revealed his love for his new position, saying that, due to the field portion of his job, he has the ability to get to know, build or even preserve personal relationships. “When you run into someone here, you know everyone,” DaSilva said. Due to the smallness of the towns DaSilva serves, he argued when you know someone, you know everyone in some way. DaSilva also has a large amount of love and respect for the communities.
When DaSilva was asked about his goals in his position, they were quite simple. “The root is to be a part of the community,” DaSilva said. He went on to explain the communities he serves are family-oriented, safe, prideful and growing. DaSilva even discussed his personal moments referencing driving on Sundays and feeling safe, as the towns are quiet. Those aspects bring joy and comfort to DaSilva and, due to his rewards, he wishes to return the favor. He wishes to help the communities grow and prosper without losing their foundation.
