The Madison Upward and Recreation program expanded this year, offering two sports to the already established basketball program. In the early months of this year, flag football was offered for the first time. This fall, girls volleyball was introduced to the line-up.
“We had 48 girls participating in volleyball this season,” said Upward Director Derek Greeson. “The girls ranged from third grade up to seventh grade. We had them divided into two age groups; the younger group consisted of those girls in the third, fourth and fifth grades. The older group of players were the players in the sixth and seventh grade. The girls that participated this year and those that will in the future will bring Madison County volleyball to a new level.”
The Upward basketball program will begin its seventh season with the largest group of young athletes in the program's history. “We have 100 players in the basketball league this season,” said Greeson. The Upward Basketball program gets underway on Saturday, Oct. 22. The games are played in the gymnasium of the Madison Church of God's Family Life Center.
