Many kids dream of becoming an astronaut when they grow up. Students at Landmark Baptist Church had a little taste of space with this year's “Cosmic Crusade” Vacation Bible School (VBS). The out-of-this-world event started Monday, June 7 and ended Friday, June 11. To fit with the space theme, the main stage of the church was turned into the control room of the spaceship Genesis, with surrounding rooms becoming constellations to complete the solar system.
Each night, students listened to Bible lessons focusing on Noah and his godliness, obedience, deliverance, worship and promise from God. Along with these lessons, students enjoyed meals, participated in crazy science experiments, burned off energy at games and learned the words and dance moves to theme songs for the week.
For the final night, students showed off their dance moves to their parents with the theme song for the week. The parents were also able to enjoy a skit from aboard the Genesis spaceship, a gospel presentation and a slideshow displaying pictures from the week.
Putting on a good VBS requires good leaders. Landmark Baptist Church's VBS was successful because of VBS directors Belinda Blair and Gayle Ledford, Pastor Robert Ledford, culinary director Angie Hay, craft coordinator Liberty Blair and music directors Liz Hamrick and Katherine Hale, as well as all of the teachers, assistants, registration managers, decorators, cleanup helpers and many others who made the event possible.
Although the students enjoyed singing, dancing and doing crazy science experiments, the most important successes of VBS were the lessons they learned about how God worked through Noah and how He could work through them as well.
