Vera Mason Lauria, 88, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 2 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga.
Vera was born on March 2, 1927 in Madison, to Henry Mason and Ella McCoy Wilson.
She joined Mt. Nebo A.M.E. Church at an early age and served faithfully as a member, missionary, steward pro tempore, Sunday school superintendent, church secretary, area women missionary society secretary, pall bearers lodge #20 secretary and treasurer. She was a member of the Household of Ruth and served as treasurer. For over 20 years, she worked for the Bland Household. She was a Senior Companion and retired from Madison County Public Schools as a production coordinator at Madison County High School.
She leaves a legacy of love and memories to be cherished: by her loving husband of 65 years, Jack A. Lauria; their children: Rev. Alonza (Lillie Mae) Fudge, Ella M. Wilson, Shirley (James) Seabrooks, and Mary (Harold) Jackson; grandchildren, who will cherish their time with “Grandma,” are: Julia M. (William) Scott, April (Mitchell, Jr.) Jackson, Tonya L. Seabrooks, James A. (Vasheika) Seabrooks, Jr., and Frederick D. (Brittany) Jackson; great grandchildren who will continue the legacy of love are: Tracy Bright, Joseph (Marisha) Williams, Zakaria L. Scott, Mitchell Jackson III, Alexis Jackson, Myles Jackson, Marcellus Jackson, Bryce Seabrooks, James Seabrooks III, JaVelle Seabrooks, and Robert Bell; great grandchildren: Jameriah Williams, Jayce Williams; she also leaves to celebrate her life, her only surviving sibling, Fred Wilson, Jr. Extensions of her immediate family who will also miss her are Temple Walker, Beatrice Gallon, Vera Watkins, Rachel Lanier, and Dorothy Alexander; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. in Madison. Visitation will be held at Cooks & Cooper Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 8 at 6:30-8 p.m.
