iPhone users beware: a new virus has been reported that causes iPhones to crash. When receiving a string of non-Latin characters, (Arabic, Chinese, and Marathi have all been confirmed) the text notification banner attempts to abbreviate it with an ellipsis. This causes the iPhone to shut down and reboot. A glitch in the operating system is to blame: however, Apple developers are currently stumped as to how to fix this little issue. Luckily, only very specific combinations of characters are capable of creating the glitch: The Guardian tried 50 combinations before successfully recreating the glitch. The virus can be avoided altogether by turning off banner notifications. Apple developers promise a fix to the bug in its next software update.
