The Aucilla Christian Academy Varsity Warriors faced off with their rival, Robert F. Munroe Day School on Tuesday, May 5, and won, 6-3. The victory didn't come easy, as the Warriors and Bobcats were tied, 3-3, going into the seventh inning. Despite the pressure, the Warriors remained focused, seizing the win-- a win which qualifies them to play in the regional finals tonight at 7 p.m. at Seven Rivers Christian. Noteworthy players include Shawn Blue, who pitched seven innings, striking out seven, allowing six hits and three earned runs; Austin Bishop, who went 3-2, accumulating two singles, two runs and a RBI; DJ Wilkinson, who went 3-2, earning a single, a double, adding one run and two RBIs; and Ty Chancy who went 4-3, racking up three singles and two RBIs. Aucilla was tied with Munroe, 3-3, after gaining one run in the third and two in the fifth. However, in the seventh inning, the Warriors gained three more runs, sealing the win. “I'm a very proud coach tonight,” remarked Head Coach Thornton Davis, after the win. “Not because we won a game but because of how they played the game. They were relentless, unwavering, gritty, scrappy, focused and supportive of their teammates at all times. I saw some young people grow up a little tonight. That's more important to me than any trophy or title.” The Warriors play Seven Rivers Christian tonight in the regional finals match-up at 7 p.m. If they win, they will advance to the final four and fight for a chance to win the championship.
