“Every year around this time, we allow our young men to see and experience healthy dealings with women, so this year, they will see healthy couples at the ‘We Still Got It’ Dinner & Dance Event,” said Boyz to Kings director, Merv Mattair.
This year, the Florida Department of Health, the IMPACT Team, and Healthy Start have collaborated with Boyz to Kings to give the couples of the Madison community an opportunity to enjoy one another through taking each other out on a date that will consist of dinner, a powerful speaker, a live skit, and lots of dancing (Fontana Davis will be the DJ for the evening). “We want every couple to leave knowing and declaring that ‘We Still Got It,’ ” said Mattair.
Pamela Robinson is the featured speaker for the evening. She is a certified life coach, inspirational teacher, speaker, and former host and scriptwriter for The Swagging Healthy Radio Show. She is also the founder and CEO of Pink Inspiration, an organization dedicated to adolescent and women’s holistic health and wellness.
“The stronger relationships are, the better the youth will be served, so we desire to have a blast. Marriage is supposed to be fun and healthy, so let's go on a date with the one we love!” continued Mattair.
This dinner and dance will take place on Saturday, July 29, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Madison Senior Citizen Center located at 1161 Harvey Greene Dr., in Madison.
"We (at Boyz to Kings) teach sexual risk avoidance classes through the health department to about 900 students yearly. When asked how they rate the status of marriages in America (based on what they see) from a 1 to a 10, all of the youth rated marriage below a five. When asked why, the majority of them stated that it seems that everyone is cheating on each other. “We try to show young people healthy relationships, so this event will empower couples to hang in there and to leave saying ‘We Still Got It,’” explained Mattair.
The event is free to the public, but they are only able to serve the first 51 couples who register via phone or facebook at “We Still Got It.”
If you would prefer to register by phone, call Tamara Johnson at (850) 973-5000 ext. 1171 or Merv Mattair at (850) 673-1002. Registrations must be received by July 24.
