A concerned citizen contacted the Madison County Carrier to inform the public that they had received a fake text message from Wells Fargo claiming that the account will be suspended due to suspicious online activity on her account unless she clicks on the provided link. Wells Fargo advises to never open attachments, click links or respond to emails or text messages from suspicious or unknown senders. If you receive a suspicious email or text message that uses Wells Fargo’s name, they ask that you forward it to them at reportphish@wellsfargo.com.
Six ways to spot a fraudulent email or text message are: Awkward greetings, typos, incorrect grammar, strange or unfamiliar links, compelling or urgent language, and misspelled company name If you feel that you have been a victim of such activity or even an attempt, please contact the Sheriff’s Office with any additional information at (850) 973-4001.
