Mr. Willie Lee Odom, 78, of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Madison County Memorial Hospital. Willie was born April 23, 1943, in Madison, to Randle Yates Odom and Ellen Carter Odom. Following High School, he was drafted into the US Army and served during the Vietnam War as a Boot Camp Drill Sergeant. After returning home from his military service, he went to work with Davis Enterprises as a fuel truck driver for a number of years before joining the Madison Police Department, as a Police Officer, where he served briefly until joining the Madison County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy, until his retirement in 2002. He was of the Methodist Faith and attended the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and working on boats. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Randle and Ellen Odom; his wife of 57 years, Betty Ruth Odom; as well as numerous siblings.
He is survived by his son, Tony Odom (Kim) of Lee; one sister, Lila Odom Webb, of Madison; three grandchildren: Kasey Oliver, Austin Odom and Amanda Frith (Daryl); one great-granddaughter, Kynleigh Oliver; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, at Burns Funeral Home of Madison, with Bro. Steve McHargue officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
