Born and raised in Madison, Malcolm Wingfield shares his story of perseverance in the face of what seemed like impossible odds. On Dec. 7, 2017, Wingfield was severely injured in the line of duty, while serving as an E-5 Sergeant in the Unites States Marine Corp. He was told by physicians that he may never walk or talk again. The spinal and nerve injuries he sustained while serving his country were so severe that he was told the chances of a full recovery were slim. Wingfield shares that he wasn't able to speak for 6 months, and that it look him over a year to relearn how to walk. Wingfield went through two years of physical therapy, sleep therapy, cognitive therapy, humanistic therapy, and even aquatic therapy in order to regain his balance.
Wingfield says that he was able to regain all of his abilities and can move, walk and speak again today. He looks upon this difficult time that he experienced as something that allowed him to grow and deepen his character. It gave him the opportunity to deeply consider what he wanted to do with his life and how he could lead a purpose-driven, successful life. Malcolm shares, “I feel as if my near death experience is the best thing that could have happened to me, because I value the time I have here on earth so much more.” The determination and faith in God that Malcolm developed during those difficult years helped him become the owner of his own international distribution company. Wingfield is also a successful insurance broker and a public figure who now resides in Tampa, Fla.
Thank you, Sergeant Wingfield, for your service and sacrifice for your country and for rising up in the face of adversity and making yourself an example.
