Major David Harper, of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, reports that on Monday, Nov. 14, at 3:43 a.m., deputies responded to 1077 SW State Road 14 in reference to a reported drive-by shooting, that had just occurred. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with two male victims that were not injured but reported being woken up by a person dressed in all black, wearing a ski mask and pointing a pistol at them. The victims reported they were instructed to walk to the den and there they were tied up. A third male victim reported he was awoken by a woman pointing a gun at him and then tied him to the bed. A fourth victim reported she was awoken by gunshots and when awoken, ran from her room. But then, a person dressed in all black pushed her back inside the room and was standing over her with a gun pointed to her head. One of the victims managed to break free and retrieve a shotgun from a vehicle parked in the yard. At some point, the suspect shot a pistol multiple times striking a vehicle that was parked in the yard and the freed victim fired three shots at the suspect causing the suspect to flee on foot.
Investigators were called to the scene and collected a multitude of evidence. After aggressively working the investigation, processing evidence and interviewing multiple witnesses, investigators were able to identify the suspect as Vangie (Vann) Scott, 41, of Monticello, and obtained arrest warrants.
On Monday, Dec. 5, Scott turned herself in at the Madison County Jail. None of the victims were injured during this offense.
