A Lee man is behind bars after a Madison man was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the back of the head on Sunday, May 31, Lt. Chris Cooks of the Madison Police Department (MPD) reports.
Terrance Wright, 43, of Lee, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after confessing to the shooting, following apprehension assistance from the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
Lt. Cooks reports that around 3:39 p.m., he responded with Ptl. B. Griffin to a call in reference to someone being shot on Parramore Street, in Madison, between Smith Street and Miller Street. Upon arrival, Lt. Cooks and Ptl. Griffin noticed a witness performing CPR on the victim, later identified as Tavares O'Hara, 35, of Madison. Ptl. Griffin began conducting CPR, and Lt. Cooks reported that O'Hara had an apparent gunshot wound to the back of the head. O'Hara was transported to the Madison County Memorial Hospital, where he was flown to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment. Lt. Cooks reports that O'Hara is in good condition.
As investigation continued, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) responded to the scene upon being notified of the situation, as well as Chief of Police Reggie Alexander. After identifying the suspect as Wright, MCSO's assistance was requested. According to MCSO's Maj. David Harper, the county agency sent a surveillance unit who confirmed Wright was at his residence in Lee. Upon activating the MCSO S.W.A.T. Team, Wright was apprehended in his yard without further incident. He was transported to the MPD, where he confessed to the shooting in an interview with Lt. Cooks and FDLE.
As of Monday, June 1, Wright remains in the custody of the Madison County Jail. When asked about a potential motive, Lt. Cooks declined to comment. "We thank MCSO for assisting us in this case," Lt. Cooks added.
