Gym bleachers transformed from spectator seating to a showcase of science experiments at Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) on Thursday, Oct. 28. The Science Fair exhibits represented a variety of scientific endeavors, such as product testing horticultural inquiries, chemical reactions force and motion, food science forms of energy, and more.
Students in seventh grade science and in high school physical science classes spoke with the judges about their lines of inquiry, hypotheses, procedures, results and conclusions, exhibit boards, included photos, graphs and artwork to enhance communication about their experiments. Judges this year were Danielle Spraque (UF/IFAS Jefferson County), Lisa Strange (UF/IFAS Taylor County), Laura Young (ECB Publishing, Inc.) and John Stephens (Jefferson County Clerk of the Courts Office).
In the middle school (seventh grade) division, Braxton Townsend won First Place for his project “Which Bait Catches the Most Fish?” Second Place went to Will Borders for his project “Balloon Powered Car,” and the Third Place project was “Rocket Recovery” by Jackson McDonald. Gavin Thompson's “Which Plane Will Fly the Farthest?” project and Brooklyn Folberth's “Tasting Colors” project were recognized with Honorable Mention.
In the high school division, ninth grade student Jacob Flynt won First Place with his project “Solar S'Mores.” Second place went to 10th grade student Lauchlin Faglie for her “Think You're Special” project, and Third Place went to ninth grade student Dalton Demott for his “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” project. Ethan Bass (ninth grade) was recognized with Honorable Mention for his project “Let There Be Light.”
